On the left is my older 24mm wide rim and on the right is the 35mm wide rim for this build. The wider rim fattens up the tire and makes it more stable on the rim even at lower pressures. It reduces pinch flats too. Wide rims are usually heavier but the extra traction, cushioning, stability, reduced punctures and safety are worth it. The strength is very good too.
