The next batch of Jones modified 6 speed cassettes is ready. This allows you to have 6 gears on a single speed hub for a stiffer and stronger (geared) wheel compared to a dished 9/10 speed wheel. I make each 6 speed cassette from a Shimano 9 speed cassette – a little careful machining. Riders can then use 9 speed compatible shifters and parts. Gearing is: 17, 20, 23, 26, 30, 34. The cassette fits onto a Chris King and many other single speed cassette hubs (hubs other than a King may require a spacer). It is best to use a non-shadow Shimano rear derailleur with this cassette (the Shadow type derailleur is closer to the cassette and may have some chain rub during the shift). A long low-limit screw is included with this cassette and should be used to prevent the derailleur from over shifting into the spokes (the stock limit screw is usually too short). Sometimes a little gear range extends your options – gears aren’t all bad!
