My last blog post was about two months ago when I was taking a little time off… I planned on returning to write here about that time, but instead I returned to a very busy shop with emails and messages and have not found the time since.

Right after that last post, I went to the Single Speed World Championship race in Bend, Oregon with my son Korbin.

This is my fifth SSWC and Korbin’s first.

Penn State SSWC2005 was my first.

Scotland 2007  My bike and I ended up in this video a few times.

California SSWC2008

Ireland 2011   That’s me at 2:24.

This year the race was in Bend, Oregon! Just a few hours drive North of Jones Bikes here in Southern Oregon. It was so close we had to go, and I needed to ride!

Once we were in Bend, we jumped on our bikes and rode to town to find the main gathering spot and starting point for some group rides.
An impromptu safety meeting on one of the group rides, on our way to some very nice in town trails.
Such a beautiful place!

We also explored Bend by bike.
We were both riding titanium Plus LWB bikes (size medium). I was on the Spaceframe version with Truss fork.
Korbin was riding the Diamond version of the frame with a Unicrown fork. He has had a few Jones bikes over the years, This was his first long ride on the LWB. He had been riding a older 29″ Jones bike.
Korbin checking our location.
We rode all over, every day, and it was good.
Hanging out in the park.

Messing around.

At the start we could see just how many people were here.

Off we go.

After the start, Korbin and I rode together for some time, but he is at the age and skill level now that he is sometimes faster than me. So after a while he dropped me. I pedaled on.

We both rode the long course.
There were many aid stations and at this one, I met back up with Korbin.

We rode together for the rest of the race.
After the finish line we rested, before riding back to town.
Picking up some food.
Pizza after the ride.

We rode over 50 miles that day and it was incredible. The trails and bikes were awesome.

Heading back to the shop.

Also, here are some Custom Select bikes built since then.

I had more to share here but ran out of time again. So thank you very much and have a great New Year!

More to come in 2019!
